Why am I getting a bill from Radiologist when I've already gotten one from the hospital?

The bill from the hospital is charges for the X-Ray being taken.  It covers their expenses for the equipment, upkeep, employees in X-Ray, etc.  Your doctor or a doctor in the emergency room may have looked at your X-Ray but they are not specialists.  The Radiologist had four years of extra training after becoming a doctor to be an expert in reading the X-Rays.  Your X-Rays are read by the Radiologist and the report was sent to your doctor.  The bill you get from them is for that reading, report and consultation if your doctor requests it.

Where is the Radiologist's office?

At one time when the Radiologists were only reading for a couple of hospitals they had their own billing office.  After they started reading on PACS they were able to increase their coverage because of the efficiency of the PACS system.  It also enabled them to use computers to gather information for billing so it was necessary to turn their billing over to a company that specializes in that area.

Because of the nature of PACS where exams are transmitted digitally, the Radiologist do not have to be sitting in an office.  This enables them to have their office at home so there isn't centralized office where the Radiologist work.
